case study » martha washington website
Most people have only a vague impression of Martha Washington, mainly as a dowdy old woman. In reality, Martha led a vibrant life as mistress of a large household, teacher, hostess of large parties of influential people, and a proud and accomplished needleworker. Mt. Vernon approached the Center for History and New Media to develop a website that would bring Martha’s world to life through words and pictures in a way that would appeal to historians and teachers, history buffs, and the general public. The site needed to be backed by a content management system (in this case, the CHNM-developed Omeka) to enable content providers to add new material, and for visitors to make notes and annotate content. This site is scheduled for public launch fall 2009.
